Clevedon Treasures Uncovered

Talking shopping local for Christmas and sharing some of Clevedon’s best kept ‘indie’ interiors secrets in K Interiors' fortnightly newsletter.

Clevedon Treasures Uncovered

Hello Home Lover,

Are you lucky enough to live in a place where your local high street is still buzzing with cafés and little artisan boutiques? Sadly, I know that’s not the case everywhere these days.

But here in Clevedon we’re incredibly fortunate to have a vibrant arts and crafts scene, with loads of local makers. In fact, one of my favourite ways to pass the time, is a relaxed wander down through the town, looking for beautiful items for my own or my clients’ homes.

Particularly at this time of year when the lights are twinkling and the Christmas stock has taken over the shelves.

Commit to shopping local this Christmas

I think it’s so important to shop local and to support smaller suppliers. It’s the only way to keep our high streets – and small business communities – alive. And when you start to look for it, you realise there’s an incredibly wealth of talent around. In fact, in independent stores you’ll find truly individual things that you just wouldn’t see in larger chains.

Especially when it comes to interesting Christmas decorations and unique gifts.

That’s why in this newsletter I wanted to celebrate shopping local, sharing some of the interiors independents in Clevedon and the surrounding area. From artwork to artisan pots, candles to colourful creations – these are suppliers I regularly use and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Whether at Christmas or any other time of year.

My favourite 5…

Doghead Designs

I’ve worked on a number of pieces with furniture artist Tristan over the years, some of which you’ll see standing pride of place in my clients' rooms. And while the store is great, Tristan’s real talents remain in the workshop, reimagining old furniture and giving it a new lease of life.

In the shop you’ll also find other local artists and makers including fabulously colourful items from Colour Pop Kate - local artist Kate Birnie (they’re her brilliant baubles above).

Clevedon Candle Company

With a gorgeous selection of locally poured candles, wax melts and diffusers, Clevedon Candle Company is a must if you’re looking for a home fragrance to suit any mood. I love to browse their stall at the Sunday market, particularly this time of year, when their amazing Christmas range is available. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love a candle?

Soft Day Stores (formerly Doe Plants)

I’ve always said that Doe Plants was so much more than a plant shop, and having recently rebranded and moved to a new store, they’ve stepped into the home and lifestyle space with both feet. I called in this week and bought a fabulous house plant, I love their collection of gorgeous plants, ethical homewares and carefully curated gifts. Now dangerously close to my home!

Made in Clevedon

Louise from Made in Clevedon creates bright, colourful candlesticks and resin pots that you’ll find stocked at Doghead Designs (above) and at local markets around the area. She’s also a huge advocate for #shoplocal, regularly shouting out other independent brands and suppliers who are based around the town.

Store for the Curious

With such an eclectic mix of furniture, art, gifts and found items, Store for the Curious is the perfect place to head to this time of year if you have someone to buy for…but you’re not sure what to buy. Their claim to fame? Lots of their stock is used in shows like Big Brother, House of Games, Taskmaster and Married at First sight.

Are you curious?

Shopping local can still mean bespoke

If you’ve ever tried to look for the perfect piece of furniture or soft furnishings to fit with your room redesign, you’ll know how hard it can be. In fact, the more you can picture exactly what you want, the more impossible it will be to find.

That’s when a bespoke design service can save time (and stress) trawling through large stores and online suppliers. Helping you create exactly what you’re after, in whatever dimensions, and whatever colour or pattern you require. Without the compromise.

And if you do plan to go bespoke, choosing a local designer to support you can make the whole process even easier. You can arrange to meet them face to face, examine samples, touch materials and really get an understanding of the quality that’s possible.

Plus, designing and making furniture locally is undeniably better for the planet. Thanks to minimal shipping and a reduction in waste through years of loving and using your carefully designed piece.
